Cloud Egress Fees Index 2026: Guide to Data Transfer Pricing by Provider

Rackdog Team

cloud egress fees

Depending on the provider, egress may carry no usage-based charge or cost thousands of dollars per month for high-volume workloads.

With egress billing rates and free transfer allowances varying so much from one infrastructure provider to the next, it can be challenging to compare models and determine the option that best fits your workload.

This index compares public internet egress pricing from 11 hyperscaler, alternative cloud, and bare metal infrastructure providers.

Use this guide to compare published egress rates, free allowances, and pooling rules before selecting an infrastructure provider.

How we determined each provider’s egress pricing

To determine the cost of egress for each provider, we reviewed official pricing pages and provider documentation in July 2026. The index cites publicly available list or on-demand pricing rather than negotiated contracts, private quotes, or temporary promotions.

To keep the comparison consistent, we applied the following rules:

  • Traffic type: Outbound transfer from a hosted workload to the public internet

  • Region: United States pricing or an eastern U.S. region when rates vary by location

  • Services: General-purpose virtual machines, cloud compute, or bare metal servers. CDN traffic, storage-specific transfer, private networking, and inter-region traffic are excluded

  • Units: 1 TB equals 1,000 GB throughout the index. When a provider bills in GiB, we convert the billable transfer volume from GB to GiB before calculating the comparison costs

  • Cost of 1 TB over allowance: The cost of 1,000 billable GB after the provider’s free allowance has been exhausted

  • Cost of 100 TB over allowance: The cost of 100,000 billable GB after the provider’s free allowance has been exhausted

  • Tiered rates: When a provider reduces its per-GB rate at higher volumes, each applicable pricing tier is applied progressively

The calculations compare egress fees, or charges for outbound data transfer to the public internet, only. They do not include the price of the server, virtual machine, storage, network port, or other infrastructure services.

Provider pricing can change and may differ by product or region. Confirm the current terms for your intended service and deployment location before making a final purchasing decision.

AWS vs. Google Cloud vs. Azure egress pricing

Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure account for roughly two-thirds of global cloud infrastructure spending. All three use progressive tiered egress pricing, with each successive volume tier charged at a lower per-GB rate.

Amazon Web Services egress pricing

AWS provides a relatively small free allowance followed by tiered data transfer pricing. Under the comparison modeled in this index, AWS resulted in the highest total egress cost of any included provider.

  • Free allowance: 100 GB per month

  • Overage pricing: $0.09 per GB for the first 10 billable TB, $0.085 per GB for the next 40 TB, $0.07 per GB for the next 100 TB, and $0.05 per GB above 150 TB

  • Allowance pooling: The 100 GB allowance is aggregated across eligible AWS services and regions. Adding EC2 instances does not increase it

  • Considerations: The allowance excludes AWS GovCloud and China regions. Other AWS services and transfer routes may use different rates

Google Cloud egress pricing

Google Cloud Standard Tier includes 200 GiB of free monthly egress for each eligible region and SKU. Once its GiB-based rates are converted to the GB standard used in this comparison, Google Cloud narrowly undercuts Azure and is the least expensive of the three major hyperscalers at both transfer volumes modeled.

  • Free allowance: 200 GiB per month for each eligible region and SKU

  • Overage pricing: $0.085 per GB for the first 10,240 billable GB, $0.065 through 153,600 GB, and $0.045 above that volume

  • Allowance pooling: Usage is combined across projects connected to the same billing account, but the allowance is applied separately by region and SKU

  • Considerations: These figures use Standard Tier pricing. Premium Tier, other services, and different traffic routes may have separate rates

Microsoft Azure egress pricing

Microsoft Azure includes 100 GB of free monthly internet egress before tiered bandwidth charges apply. Using its lower-cost Routing Preference transit ISP network, Azure is less expensive than AWS, though slightly more expensive than Google Cloud, at both modeled volumes.

  • Free allowance: 100 GB per month

  • Overage pricing: $0.085 per GiB from 200 GiB to 10,240 GiB, $0.065 per GiB from 10,240 GiB to 153,600 GiB, and $0.045 per GiB above 153,600 GiB

  • Allowance pooling: The allowance is not tied to individual virtual machines. Adding more Azure VMs does not add another 100 GB of free transfer

  • Considerations: These figures use Azure’s lower-cost Routing Preference transit ISP network for traffic originating in North America. Azure’s Premium Global Network uses higher rates

Oracle Cloud egress pricing

Oracle Cloud stands apart from the other hyperscalers with 10 TB of free monthly outbound transfer and a flat overage rate of $0.0085 per GB. At 100 TB over the allowance, Oracle Cloud’s $850 egress cost is approximately 86% lower than Google Cloud’s or Azure’s and 89% lower than AWS’s.

  • Free allowance: 10 TB per month per tenancy

  • Overage pricing: $0.0085 per GB for outbound transfer originating in North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom

  • Allowance pooling: The allowance is fixed at the tenancy level. Adding virtual machine instances does not increase it

  • Considerations: Overage pricing varies by the geography where the traffic originates. The applicable rate should be confirmed for deployments outside North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom

How alternative cloud providers structure their egress pricing

Looking beyond the hyperscalers, alternative cloud providers often include outbound transfer with each instance or service plan. These allowances are commonly added to a shared account pool, allowing unused transfer from one resource to offset heavier usage from another.

DigitalOcean egress pricing

DigitalOcean CPU Droplets include between 500 GiB and 11,000 GiB of outbound transfer per month, depending on the selected plan. A flat $0.01/GiB rate applies to data transfer overages.

  • Free allowance: 500–11,000 GiB per CPU Droplet each month, depending on the plan

  • Overage pricing: $0.01 per GiB, equivalent to approximately $0.00931 per GB

  • Allowance pooling: Each Droplet contributes its included transfer to a pool shared across the customer’s team

  • Considerations: Allowances are prorated based on how long each Droplet remains active during the billing period

Vultr egress pricing

Vultr provides each account with 2 TB of monthly outbound transfer and adds the allowance included with each active instance.

  • Free allowance: 2 TB per account, plus the transfer included with each instance plan

  • Overage pricing: $0.01 per GB

  • Allowance pooling: Included transfer is combined into an account-level pool that can be used across instances and locations

  • Considerations: Instance allowances accrue hourly, so an instance that runs for only part of the month contributes a prorated amount to the pool

Akamai Cloud egress pricing

Akamai Cloud combines plan allowances of up to 20 TB with the lowest overage rate among the metered providers in this comparison. Although included transfer varies by service and plan, its North American rate of $0.005 per GB keeps the cost of 100 TB over the allowance to $500.

  • Free allowance: Between 0 and 20 TB per month, depending on the service and plan

  • Overage pricing: Starts at $0.005 per GB in North America

  • Allowance pooling: Eligible services contribute prorated transfer to an account pool. Most core data centers share a global pool

  • Considerations: Some locations maintain separate data-center pools, and distributed compute regions are not included in the global pool. Certain newer compute and GPU plans do not include bundled transfer

OVHcloud egress pricing

OVHcloud does not meter public internet traffic for its Public Cloud instances in North America or Europe. Unmetered traffic is also enabled by default on its bare metal servers in those regions, making OVHcloud a flexible option for high-bandwidth workloads across virtual and dedicated infrastructure

  • Free allowance: Unmetered transfer in North America and Europe

  • Overage pricing: No per-GB egress charge in the regions covered by this comparison

  • Considerations: Singapore and Sydney locations may use transfer allowances or product-specific bandwidth options, so confirm the terms for the intended service and location

Bare metal provider egress pricing

Top bare metal providers commonly include substantially more outbound transfer than hyperscaler cloud platforms.

Depending on the provider, customers may receive an unmetered bandwidth plan or a large per-server allowance that grows as servers are added to a shared pool, making egress costs more predictable for high-bandwidth workloads.

Rackdog egress pricing

Rackdog includes unmetered bandwidth with every bare metal server across all available locations, so outbound transfer does not create a separate usage-based charge at any volume. Unlike providers that offer unmetered bandwidth only as a paid upgrade, Rackdog includes it in the standard server price.

  • Free allowance: Unmetered outbound transfer with no fixed monthly allowance

  • Overage pricing: No per-GB egress charge

  • Considerations: Unmetered transfer is still limited by the selected port speed. Most Rackdog configurations include a 10 Gbps unmetered port, with higher speeds available upon request for an additional fee

Latitude.sh egress pricing

Latitude.sh includes 20 TB of monthly outbound transfer with each bare metal server. Because every server adds another 20 TB to the pool shared within the same project and country, the available allowance grows with the deployment instead of remaining fixed at the account level.

  • Free allowance: 20 TB per server each month

  • Overage pricing: $0.01 per GB

  • Allowance pooling: Each server contributes 20 TB to a pool shared across servers in the same project and country

  • Considerations: Allowances cannot be shared between different projects or countries. Customers can purchase additional bandwidth in 10 TB increments, which may produce a different cost than paying the standard overage rate

Servers.com Egress Pricing

Servers.com Enterprise Bare Metal includes 20 TB of outbound transfer with each dedicated server and pools the allowance across servers in the same region. However, at $0.0341 per GB, egress beyond the allowance is more expensive than that of most other bare metal providers in the comparison.

  • Free allowance: 20 TB per Enterprise Bare Metal server each month

  • Overage pricing: $0.0341 per GB

  • Allowance pooling: Each server contributes its allowance to a pool shared with other servers in the same region

  • Considerations: Transfer allowances cannot be combined across regions. Servers.com Scalable Bare Metal uses a separate model that charges for public outbound traffic per GB

Best infrastructure providers with no egress fees

Among the IaaS providers included in this index, Rackdog and OVHcloud offer unmetered bandwidth without usage-based egress fees. Hivelocity also offers unmetered bandwidth through optional paid port upgrades.

All three are relevant options for high-bandwidth dedicated servers that send large or steadily increasing amounts of data to users and external systems.

  • Egress model: Optional flat-rate unmetered bandwidth

  • Availability: Offered as paid 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, and 10 Gbps port upgrades

How to choose an infrastructure provider for the best egress pricing

Finding an infrastructure provider with the right egress billing model starts with understanding your workload.

If your anticipated data transfer needs are modest, your infrastructure bill may not vary much from one option to the next. However, for workloads that generate high or unpredictable volumes of outbound traffic, it’s important to choose a provider with a large enough transfer allowance (or unmetered bandwidth) to prevent egress fees from becoming a major cost driver.

For teams exploring dedicated infrastructure for high-bandwidth workloads, Rackdog includes unmetered bandwidth with every bare metal server and no egress fees on any volume of data transfer.
